Dance Academy
Our Dance Academy is our pre-professional dance training program. Students are mentored and molded into accomplished artists by Instructors with years of professional dance experience and BFA’s in Dance. We accept students age 6-18 years old and students 9+ years old must have 2 years dance experience.
Classes are held on Fridays for students 9+ years and on Saturdays for all students.
We offer conservatory style training in the following techniques:
- African
- Contemporary
- Ballet
- Dance Wellness
- Gymnastics
- Hip-Hop
- Jazz
- Modern
- Tap
Junior Dance Company
The Junior Dance Company gives young dancers in our Pre-Professional Dance Academy program amazing performance opportunities. Students engage in additional weekly rehearsals to learn VMDC repertoire as well as new pieces. Jr Dance Co members also tour during the holidays and in the summer and receive professional performance experience.
Only students that are in the Dance Academy Level I or Level II will be invited to audition for this Company.
Divine Excellence Majorette Dance Team
Students Audition into this team and learn how to dance in the HBCU style of Majorette Dance from former HBCU Majorette Dancers. This esteemed dance team can be seen leading the Brownsville Excellence Marching Band in performances all through-out New York City.
Acceptance into this Dance Team is by Audition only and rehearsals are held at PS184 on Saturdays from 10-3pm
The Divine Excellence Majorette Dancers will learn:
- Call and Response
- Jazz, Hip-Hop & West African inspired steps
- Certain Gymnastic tricks such as but not limited to: Toe touches, Y-Stands and Pop-ups
- HBCU Majorette dance combinations
- Skills and technique to compete in HBCU Battle of the Band competitions
Young Artist Apprenticeship Program
The Young Artist Apprenticeship Program (YAAP) encourages our students to take active ownership over their learning goals while our programming & curriculum cultivates support structures that sets our students up for success. We believe that the Young Artist Apprenticeship program will give students the tools, agency and technique to excel in their future careers.
This program is offered to students in grades 8th & 11-12th grades that have been in our program a minimum of 2 years.
Our program offers the following through weekly classes Sept-Dec:
- Goal Setting & Future Career Planning
- High school & College Applications
- Audition Preparation
